26 hour power outages...

are not as fun as they used to be. =(

When literally EVERYTHING runs on electricity, it's not fun.

Cooking on an electric stove doesn't work. Microwaves don't work. Heat doesn't work. Water doesn't run. Food doesn't keep cold. Lights don't come on. Clouds hang low and dark. Ice is everywhere outside.

It all makes for a cold, dark, depressing, and dreary 26 hours. Not to mention long.

When it's dark, 50 degrees inside, and there's nothing to heat food with, it's really not very fun at all.

Of birthdays and such...

Just for the record, it gets bad when you have to sing "Happy Birthday" to your Father for his birthday and no one else leads and you all sound terrible. You all start laughing and can't stop for a long time. Someone tries to start, and stops. Someone else tries and stops.

And during it all, your Father is sitting there just smirking and laughing at you. =P

Wishing Grandma were here

I have been missing Grandma lately. I miss going to her house and walking in the woods. I miss swimming and eating her cookies. I miss baking bread at her house. I miss listening to just the sound of her voice. I miss the dings of her clocks when we were visiting. I miss her garden and her canning cellar. I miss her swing. I miss Thanksgiving dinners. I miss her coming for Christmas. I miss her teaching me about birds and gardening. I just plain miss her.

I wish she were here. There are so many questions that I have wanted to ask her. So many wonders I've had about her. So many things she could have taught me. I miss the things that she didn't have time to teach me. Like more about gardening and what her younger years were like. More about baking and bread and recipes. More about herself. I think of things I want to ask her all the time. And then I realize that she's not here to ask.

I wish she were still here.

Snowflake blessings

When I woke this morning, there was snow coming down. I was seized by a fit of childhood madness (Big grin, here) and decided to try to catch some snowflakes outside my bathroom window. So I did.

I was thinking as I was attempting to catch the snowflakes. I began looking at the different sizes of snowflakes and I thought of them as blessings from God. Then I began to think of all the things I had been waiting on for God and how He fulfills more when I wait. Well, as I caught those snowflakes, I moved my hand around and reached for the bigger ones, but could only catch the smallest of snowflakes.

Then I thought, I wonder if this is what happens in my life? I try to reach for the big ones instead of waiting for the ones that God will send right to me. And most of the time, I miss out on the big ones. So maybe I need to work on holding my hand still to wait for the "snowflakes" that God sends instead of trying to reach for the ones that weren't meant for me.

Lessons from God...

In the last few months, reading through articles, hearing the news, listening to people....

I have been honestly disgusted.
I have seen, heard, or read so many things that absolutely refute God and anything to do with Him. They abhor Him. I look through these things and I have to wonder where so many of them come up with their ideas. They disclaim everything that I have ever been taught about God. I honestly feel hurt that they would attack God in the ways that they have. I know I can't do anything about it personally, but I am flabbergasted at many of the people that argue against God. And I will resign my case here.

God has always been my strength to fall back upon. He has always been there, and I have felt His presence and seen His answers to my prayers. In the last year, I have felt so far from Him, and yet so close. I have honestly known Him better than I have ever known Him in the past.

In the past few years, I had known Him as God. I had known Him as someone who had died for me and rose again. I had known Him as a miraculous God. I had known Him as someone who said He loved me. I had known Him as someone who watched over me and protected me. I had known Him as someone that people I knew claimed as their Savior.

Even though all these things are true, that was only just skimming the surface of God. Oh, sure, I had had answers to requests I had made. Sure, I had been having a quiet time with Him every morning. Sure, I heard all these people who said all this awesome stuff about Him. But I have recently seen that I didn't really know God. I knew some things about God. But I didn't know God.

In the past year or so, I have gotten to know Him. Not just what people said about Him. My life has had more trials and temptations and fallings and pits than I had previously ever known existed. God has taught me about Himself. Some things that I would never have known were it not for my life this past year. It hasn't exactly been a smooth ride. In the past, I have had more blessings than I could count on a hundred people's hands. I had been blessed with so much more. I still have many of those blessings. But some I haven't had. Some I haven't been able to have. God hasn't seen fit to give me those just yet. And yet, through the valley, He has drawn me to Himself. He has shown me great and mighty things. He has taught me about His faithfulness. His unfailing love. His strength. His mercy. His grace.

I'm waiting on Him for things in my life right now. It has not been easy. It's been probably the hardest thing I've had to do in my entire life. Wait. It's a hard word to learn. And He asks that we wait patiently for Him. Don't tell me it's easy. It's not. I have had so many dreams, that with each passing day, seem farther off in the distance. Some of them may have even been shattered. Each day that goes by, I see more of reality and how unreal my dreams really are. I see how next-to-impossible my dreams are. Some people tell me to just "wait on God". "Our timing is not His timing" they say. "Keep waiting. It'll happen". But how can I know? All I can do is hope and pray and wait.

I have struggled with keeping hope for better things, too. Keeping hope that will not fail. I have lost hope. Hope is very hard to keep when there nothing to keep it going. Nothing. Except God. He is all that there is. But He has been there. He has not shown His timing yet, but He has been there. He is hope.

I guess I'm just posting my personal experience in the last year. I have honestly felt like I know Him and not just some "Father figure" everyone talks about. I'll admit, the more I learn, the more I see there is to learn. So don't think I have God figured out. I don't. But I love Him more every day. I have never known God with such a depth as I have this year. I am enjoying it. It has been rough. But the more I learn about God, the more I feel that He will pull me through.

This post didn't really come out the way I wanted it to, but I tried.

Kudos to the Sis...

Kudos to my big sis Kelly for this post.

Romans 8:22-25
"For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance."

This was an awesome day for this verse. =)

Look what I found....

I just found this a minute ago reading through this post. This verse grabbed my attention. It's from Psalm 107.

29 He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.

I totally needed that verse.

So today....

Aside from some very odd and unusual and confusing things, I am looking for a babysitting job again. I need money and love kids.

Hopefully someone will want a babysitter.

I wanna go riding again. Say today? =D

Just a couple of pictures from today

My Christmas present from my sis...not quite the effect I had in mind, but...

Okay...I know very random, but I liked it...peppermint lotion, just for the record.

I came up with the windowsill idea, but this wasn't exactly what I had envisioned.

This was a redo of the light coming in on the Bible(see this post). I liked this one much better.

This was a chance shot.

Messing around with the cold window. That's my boyfriend's first initial(hopefully you can see it). =D

New Template

This is a new template again. Kelly, my wonderful oldest sis did it for me. Thanks lots!

She does a much better job than I could ever do, right? =D

I love it.

A few favorite photos

I really like this one. It's too cute to pass up sharing. =)

Umm...this is the only one without my comment...so I just thought it was cute.

This one is so happy. =)

I love the soft expressions in their eyes.

And I can't get over the somehow beautiful idea of watching the girl with her horse together.

Same idea here and over the back was just too cool...

Love the light and shadow.

I love the light spilling onto the Bible, although, I may try again sometime...

I love this one is so sweet.

I took this one back in the summer and I STILL can't get over the light spilling down across the path!

Okay...I lied. More than a few.

Blog Template changes

I like my Christmas template.

One sister thinks I should keep my Christmas template.

Two of my sisters think I should change my template.

I can't win.

*sigh*

What do you think?

And, don't you dare tell me to change it without giving me an idea for theme or something.

Off to a great start

The title is only half sarcastic.

I'm off running in this new year. Things have already challenged me to get closer to God or to run from Him. I chose to go to Him. It's been wonderful so far.

Only last night I wanted to start the year over because I thought it was terrible.

This morning, I want to keep going.

I wanted to get closer to God this year than ever before. I talked to Him about it and asked Him to help me do that. He has already answered my prayer. Even though life is getting harder, I'm feeling better.

And I'm off to a running start. By God's grace, I hope I can keep running. Because a year is a long time to be running.

This is a great way to start a new year.
